It looks like the car has just stopped to turn left into the opposite driveway.

I've noticed quite a few pictures of cars parked in the U.S. are often parked a foot away from the kerb. What's that all about? Someone also told me in some places you have to park in the direction of the road and some again don't allow on street parking.

It's parked. This was in Canada, down the street there's no parking on one side of the street, 9/10 the cars are parked in the direction of travel. As for people parked far from the kerb, I have no idea what that's about.
